Hossam & Serena Ramzy

Barcelona, from 19th to 21st November

Serena Ramzy: Born in Sao Paulo Brazil in a community fully integrated with Middle Eastern Culture, she started to dance at the age of 8 years old. Encouraged by her two professional dancing sisters, Serena began with Ballet and Modern dance and of course her homegrown tradition, the Brazilian Samba. Serena became one of the youngest professional dancers in the whole of Brazil at the age of fifteen, and was performing nightly in many of the top clubs and restaurants and was in constant demand as the light of many functions and weddings.

In 1996, Serena was spotted by Hossam Ramzy, the world's leading Egyptian dance teacher, percussionist, composer and world music artist who invited her to join his troupe of dancers and featured her on his CD covers and on stage. It was only a matter of a few months when Serena became Hossam's partner in dance and life. They have been married since 1997.

To date, the dynamic duo have been touring the world, dancing, performing and teaching together reaching audiences and students from the five continents. With Hossam's renowned authentic style and Serena's magnificent feel and natural expression of the music, they became the most sought after duet worldwide. Their performances vary from classical to traditional folklore to Baladi (Urbanized Folklore) to modern improvised dance to improvised live shows with his Egyptian ensemble that features the top professional virtuoso musicians from Egypt, capturing the hearts and imagination of audiences all over the world.

Hossam Ramzy:Hossam Ramzy was born in Cairo, Egypt. His musical career began early, when at the age of three he was given his first drum, an Egyptian Tabla.....

Hossam's passion and huge talent for percussion was noted by his family, many of whom were themselves involved in the arts. Hossam was encouraged to master his craft and studied under leading Cairo music teachers.
A move to Saudi Arabia led him to joining with many Bedouin tribes which gave the young Hossam a rich insight into the cultural origins of Middle Eastern music and became the inspiration for many of his later rhythmic directions. Hossam then encorporated all his rhythmic experience into creating a new sound that is heard on hundreds of the world leading albums recorded today..
